Technology – Malaysia Penang Insights: Maintaining Resilience, Growth Visibility Improves

Our Penang trip suggests that despite a fluid landscape, end-customer orders across most players remain largely intact, with no major cancellations or pushbacks.

We believe this resilience is underpinned by a cohesive ecosystem, geographic neutrality and robust talent and vendor pool built over the years − providing a competitive edge amid global shifts.

An attractive risk-reward proposition underpinned by improving growth visibility supports our sector OVERWEIGHT call.

Malaysian tech sector braces for 3Q earnings test amid sky-high valuations — HLIB Research

Sector valuations have already rerated sharply (KLTEC +63% since April lows), leaving little room for error and placing stricter scrutiny on both earnings delivery and guidance this time around.

HLIB advised investors to take a selective approach, favouring companies with resilient recurring revenue bases, such as ITMAX System Bhd (KL:ITMAX) and SMRT Holdings Bhd (KL:SMRT).

It also recommended direct exposure to the robust front-end semiconductor equipment market, namely Frontken Corporation Bhd (KL:FRONTKN) and UWC Bhd (KL:UWC)
